"The Demon's Quest 1 & 2"
A Five Star Episode from Batman: The Animated Series-Volume Three

With a mug like that, how can you trust him? After a rainy night spent fighting crime on the streets of Gotham, Robin returns to his dorm room at Gotham University. But instead of a much-needed rest, Robin finds a band of intruders in his room. They subdue the Boy Wonder, using a dart gun, and he is not seen again. After turning Gotham City upside-down over the past two days, Batman goes back to the Batcave, both empty-handed and frustrated that his attempts to find his friend have been futile. Alfred gives Batman a hand-delivered package that is address to Bruce Wayne. When he opens it, Batman is horrified to see a photo of a captured Robin being held at the mercy of a group of unseen kidnappers with knives. There's a note included with the photo, which taunts: "Save him if you can."

As if this wasn't enough of a shock, two prowlers make their presence known in the Batcave: Ra's Al Ghul, ala The Demon's Head, and his faithful manservant Ubu. Ra's presents Batman with a photo of his daughter Talia, who is seen lying bound next to Robin. Ra's tells Batman that Talia was abducted the same night Robin was, apparently by the same kidnappers. Batman deduces from the knives held in the photos that Robin and Talia are being held in India. But as they dodge assassins, panthers and other assorted dangers on their quest to save Robin and Talia, Batman comes to realize that there may be more to this caper, as well as Ra's Al Ghul himself, than meets the eye.

Uh-oh, I hope Catwoman doesn't find out about this! Adapted from the 1970s comic book written by Denny O'Neil and drawn by Neil Adams, The Demon's Quest is an excellent story that takes the Batman on a global adventure beyond the streets of Gotham City. It's ultimately a fun and engaging yarn, with the Caped Crusader battling a villain straight out of a James Bond movie with the fate of the entire world at stake. Plus he even has a few romantic scenes with a scantily clad beauty. Majestically voiced here by David Warner, Ra's Al Ghul has become one of Batman's most formidable villains, earning a co-starring role in the new Batman Begins film. He appears twice more in the Volume Three set, in the episodes Avatar and Showdown.
