I had this model kit sitting in the pile of unbuilt kits for about fifteen years. When I took it out, I saw that I had removed the flash (the excess vinyl) and that it was waiting to be assembled and painted.
It’s the Penguin, from Horizon models. A 1/8 scale model kit of my all-time favorite Batman villain.
I know the Joker is supposed to be the all-time greatest Batman villain. But I became a fan of the Penguin when I watched the 1960s Batman show starring Adam West as a little kid. I thought that the part was played to perfection by the late, great Burgess Meredith.
The comics have re-invented the character as a crime boss-type figure, and this is what the model kit looks like. Although this version is still armed with an umbrella.
I painted his handkerchief, along with the trimmings on his shoes, deep red, to show that, although he’s a well-dressed man, the Penguin is still very deadly.
I didn’t use the base that came with the figure, instead using an unused base from a Black Widow model kit. I’m glad I finished this kit. He almost looks like he could be a Bond villain, doesn’t he?
