Making Kili’s Rune Stone from the Hobbit

I recently saw the Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and enjoyed it very much. There was a scene, when the Dawrves were all imprisoned by the Elves, where Kili shows Tauriel a rune stone.

According to Kili, the writing on the rune stone means, “Come back to me.” I was always fascinated by rune stones (both real and fictional), and decided to make my own. I started with a slab of Sculpey. I tried to make it look like a smooth stone that was polished in a stream.

Using the screen shot from the film, I “wrote” out the Dwarf letters as best I could, trying to make it appear as if they were carved into the stone.

I then painted it black, leaving the letters a silvery color that helped them to stand out more.

I decided to do another one with a different, bigger font:

Personally, I like the first one that I did. It looks more like a stone with letters carved into it. Which one do you prefer?
