François Chau, who plays Dr. Marvin Candle on the orientation film found in the
hatch, also presents the special features disc in the same scratchy film
manner as on the orientation film. Candle speaks directly to you as if you're
a Dharma initiate who's about to take a test. It's a brilliant and inspired
way to introduce the special features, which are broken down into three sections,
known as phases. Candle also introduces each Phase, as well.
Phase One:
Lost: On Location: A close-up look at filming selected episodes with plenty of
behind the scenes footage and interviews. The episodes examined are: Adrift, Everybody
Hates Hugo, Abandoned, Collision, The 23rd Psalm, The Whole Truth, Dave, S.O.S.,
Two For The Road, and Live Together, Die Alone.
The World According To Sawyer: The favorite "Sawyerisms" from the cast and crew.
Deleted Scenes: features 14 deleted scenes.
Lost Bloopers: Some funny bits are included in here.
Channel Four UK Promo: a 50 second promo featuring the cast in a stylish dance
montage on the beach. This fascinating piece was made as an ad for the series
for British TV.
Sneak Peeks: basically commercials for other DVDs.
Mysteries, Theories, and Conspiracies: A look at the fans' favorite theories on
the whole Lost Mythology.
Secrets From The Hatch: Examines the designing and the construction of the living quarters
within the hatch.
Commentaries (located throughout the set):
Summary:
Fire + Water: Anatomy Of An Episode: An interesting half hour look into the creative process
of Lost by examining the production of this particular episode.
Phase Two:
The Lost Flashbacks: features cut flashbacks from Abandoned and Lockdown.
Phase Three:
Lost Connections: An interactive feature which looks at the whole "Six Degree
Of Separation" idea, where everyone on Earth is connected. Play the game to see
who is connected to whom on Lost (but then, if you're a diehard fan, then you
should already know this, anyway).
There are commnentaries on the episodes "Man Of Science, Man Of Faith",
"What Kate Did", "The 23rd Psalm", "The Whole Truth" and "Dave". The commentary on
"The Whole Truth" is one of my favorite commentary sessions, with
some nice, funny observations from actors Daniel Dae Kim (Jin) and Yoon-jin Kim (Sun)
and the episode's writers Christina M. Kim and Liz Sarnoff.
Much like the first season box set, the special features on the second season
box set of Lost are outstanding. The special features gives the viewer an
inside look into the creative process, as well as an appreciation of the amount
of hard work that goes into every episode.
